Six Sigma Services and Classes
IPS is one of the few (if not the only) firm offering Six Sigma training specifically tailored for organizations in EMS, fire and 9-1-1 communications. We like to think of Six Sigma as QI that got QI!
Lots of public safety organizations, particularly those in EMS, have implemented some sort of quality improvement program. It may be called QA, QI, CQM, or TQM. But in most EMS organizations, these efforts have not had a very good track record for demonstrating some sort of operational, clinical, or financial return on investment. Most of these programs are limited in scope to clinical processes and seem more like a 'quality police' program designed to find fault and badger and 'remediate' employees into doing better (or compel them to do a better job of hiding things that might trigger negative feedback). The roles, responsibilities and training for different aspects of these efforts are vague. There is little accountability for measurable benefit. Other organizations in other industries have had similar experiences and frustrations.
In contrast, Six Sigma provides a strategic framework, implementation process, and targeted education programs to help ensure that projects align with organizational priorities and give a measurable return on your investment of time, effort, resources and funding.
IPS offers Six Sigma training for all levels of your organization. Our courses are currently oriented towards EMS, but we are currently working on specialized versions for fire, 9-1-1 communications and law enforcement. The main differences between the versions are the nature of the examples and exercised. The core content is the same, so if you are from a fire, law enforcement or 9-1-1 communications background, please feel welcome to attend any of the EMS-oriented classes listed below.
- Six Sigma EMS Executive Course - To help senior managers and medical directors decide if Six Sigma is something they want to implement in their organizations.
- Six Sigma EMS While Belt Course - A brief overview of Six Sigma for the entire workforce
- Six Sigma EMS Yellow Belt Course - A two day workshop for those who will serve on Six Sigma process improvement teams. It covers basic tools and techniques.
- Six Sigma EMS Green Belt Course - An intensive three day course, taken after Yellow Belt training, that expands on the tools and techniques used for improvement projects. It includes the use of 'power tools' using Six Sigma oriented statistical software packages.
- Six Sigma EMS Black Belt Course - A set of educational experiences that include live workshops, online classes, email discussion group activities, and completion of a full Six Sigma project. It is Intended for those who will train, manage and mentor Six Sigma project teams, Green Belts and Yellow Belts, and take operational responsibility for Six Sigma programs within their organizations. This program typically takes place over several months.
In addition to training, IPS offers support services to help organizations successfully implement their Six Sigma strategies and coach the organization over the long term for their continued success and to facilitate higher returns on investment. These services are usually provided on a consulting subscription basis with a specified amount of remote and/or on-site support time each month. Thus becomes a predictable and budgetable cost that brings a measurable return on investment.
